Local-first does not mean “never uses a network”

Notebook code normally executes in your device’s browser engine or app WebView. SciREPL does not operate an account, advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or notebook-storage server. Workbooks and virtual files use local app/browser storage unless you export or send them. Android may include Free app data in an operating-system backup according to your device and account settings; Pro disables Android app backup.

Network use can still occur when you choose features such as runtime/package downloads, the catalogue, notebook code that fetches a URL, a user-chosen export destination, or Pro AI and Remote tools.

Free edition

The Free edition has no integrated AI provider or Remote broker. Its optional transfers are primarily runtime/package/catalogue downloads, notebook-authored network requests, and exports you initiate.

Pro edition

Pro can send selected messages, notebook context, files, tool arguments/results, or terminal traffic to a provider or broker that you configure. The developer does not receive or proxy those requests. The selected third party handles transferred data under its own terms.

  • The AI Assistant includes a bounded workbook preview with new direct messages and can send more through tools you permit.
  • AI Prompt cells use an isolated one-shot request with the prompt and context you review; they do not include Assistant history or tool results.
  • Remote and terminal features connect to a broker you choose and can expose broader data or a real shell according to your permissions.

Understand reviewed AI context and Remote/security controls before enabling them.

Deleting local data

In-app clear actions target specific stores and may intentionally retain preferences, caches, credentials, or a different conversation scope. Clearing Android app storage or uninstalling removes the on-device profile, but an Android backup of Free may remain or later restore data; manage that backup separately in Android or your account. Pro disables Android app backup. On Windows preview, quit and delete the edition’s application-data directory.

Credentials

API keys and broker tokens are stored locally for the connections you configure. Do not put credentials in notebook cells. Review provider-facing context and tool permissions before sending, and rotate a credential if you believe it was exposed.
